Jorge Vázquez is a multitalented artist of Puerto Rican drumming and singing as well as an accomplished photographer/videographer with documentary interviews, commercials and educational percussion CD recordings to his credit. His training in Bomba and Plena from elders instilled in him a passion for preserving cultural knowledge. through educating, performance, touring and collaborations, Jorge presents these traditional arts in a manner which both highlights their African, Spaniard and Taíno roots while encouraging participants to express their own sentiments through movement and rhythm. Jorge is a founding member of pioneering Bomba and Plena groups, teaches community workshops and freelances with several bands. His group, Jorge Vázquez y El Corillo is a multifaceted ensemble of Pan- Caribbean musicians and dancers dedicated to the preservation, education and promotion of Puerto Rican Arts forms from grassroots to large ensemble levels.
