Chandra Banerjee is an internationally reputed performer, teacher and choreographer. She received her Master of Arts in Dance specializing in Bharata Natyam from the prestigious Rabindra Bharati University in India. Chandra took training in Kerala Kalamandalam style under the tutelage of Girija Murali & Anita Mallick, both senior disciples of Mrs.Thankumuni Kutti; and in Kalashetra style under Guru Khagendra Barman in India. She has also studied Indian Folk dance, Rabindra Nritya and dance of Uday Shankar Gharana. Since 1990, Chandra has been associated with the Tanusree Shankar Dance Co. and has performed all over India in mega events such as National Games, World Cup Cricket’96 & Biswa Banga Sammelan’99 (Kolkata), National Republic Day Celebration & Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (New Delhi), Youth Festival, National Literacy Day, just to mention a few. She has performed regularly on Doordarshan Indian Television. Chandra has traveled all over the world and performed in international events as NABC’2005 at Madison Square Garden, New York City; Biswa Bengali Convention’2000 (Atlantic City); Banga Sammelan’2001 (Boston),USA; Voice of Asia, Almatta (former USSR); Michael Fowler Center, Wellington & Auckland (New Zealand); Australia, Singapore, Oman, Muscat, Bangladesh & Europe to name a few. In 1998, she received the ‘Uday Shankar Award’ with an international scholarship to study with the famous Alvin Ailey American Dance Co. at Lincoln Center in New York City. Chandra enriched her knowledge and dance career through association with famous International Performers & Instructors as Janet Cailo (UK) in Bartineaf technique, Jacqulyn Buglisi(USA) & Nana Gleason(France) in Martha Graham, Jaan Freeman & Andre Tison in Horton. Chandra and her Dance company had been invited by several institutions and have awed the audiences at Consulate General of India,NYC, New York City Hall, Madison Square Garden,NYC, Lotus Music & Dance, Asian Festival at Delray Beach, Florida, Gotham Hall on Broadway,NYC, Indian & Flamenco Dance at Thalia Spanish Theater, India Day Parade, Manhattan Center,NYC, Biswa Hindi Samiti, The Hindu Temple Auditorium, YMCA and several other American Indian Associations in New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusettes and other North East states. Chandra Banerjee is the Artistic Director of Nrityanjali, NY where she teaches Bharatnatyam and Creative Dance and gives professional Troupe performances. She has also successfully presented herself as a Dance Educator and presented demonstration and workshops at Columbia University, Long Island University, Drew University, City University of New York, Queens College Colden Center, Hunter College and several New York City schools.
